There’s a difference between pushing yourself to win and pushing yourself to be better.

Hey! Coach Risley here and this week's topic is all about your training intent.
Like it or not, we’re all not born into this world destined to become pro exercisers. Some were meant to make it into pro sports, some were meant to be good at the activities and some are just not built for it at all.
Don’t get me wrong, you should try no matter what level you are at. There is a distinct difference between trying to win and trying to just get better.
Way too often I see young and even older athletes and exercisers train like they’re going to the next Olympics. Training and lifting without considerations of weakness and technique.
Realistically, this argument goes for both parties but you should always consider training with full control over movement. Today is not your last day of training, so why perform that way? Training with full control not only allows us to understand our bodies better but also eliminates chances of injury as you will not be neglecting any weak links.
We do this to be healthy, so think about your longevity while still crushing those PRs. Funny enough this mindset usually leads to exponential growth in strength.
