Open Yourself Up To A World of Opportunities: Your Guide To Strength Training!

Risley Tang

Whether you’re at home, in the gym, young, old or all of the above you have the capacity to be able to strength train. Not only is it the easiest way to be strong and live long but strength itself opens a world of opportunities for you.

Some people have trouble going up the stairs, others have trouble running and some have aspirations to squat over 500lbs. Whatever goals and aspirations you have, you can be one of us. A strong and resilient human.

To get started let’s find your entry point. Like most things, if the obstacle in front of you poses as too challenging or even a threat then it may not be approachable or even digestible to do. Something as simple as walking backward can pave the way to you squatting 300lbs. for the first time. This is why strength is for everyone.

After you’ve found your gateway to movements you enjoy doing, compromising basic mechanics like the hip hinge, upper & lower push/pull, spine flexion & extension, and overhead push/pull strength. Now is your time to understand how to effectively progress them.

Progress any movements with 1-3 hard sets within the proximity of failure in rep ranges 5-30. Once you’ve successfully become great at the exercise, it may be time to progress to the next challenging variation. For example, lunges to barbell squats.

Lastly, step outside your comfort zone! Be daring and challenge yourself to become stronger not only in the movements that you’ve chosen but maybe even explore other cool movements that may have looked intimidating at first!

As always I’m here to chat! Do you incorporate any strength training into your lifestyle? See you next week 💪
