Understanding Posture. Good or bad, but does it even matter?

Hey Coach Risley here, and I often see the ongoing debate about what good posture actually is. My answer to this age-old question is simple, there is a variety of efficient postures for different individuals.

Like I always preach, it’s not really a one size fits all. We are not all meant to be a certain way cause we are all built a little differently and do different things.

Can bad posture cause injury? Maybe? But at the end of the day, it’s all tolerance relative to your fitness level. If you have a very weak low back and you decided to bend over and round your back to pick an object up you will have a higher risk of injury. On the contrary, if you have a strong low back and decide to deadlift 300lbs with a slightly flexed or rounded spine you may not have much risk of injury cause you’re tolerable in that position.

What I’m saying is, there’s really no such thing as good or bad posture in my eyes. Just positions you either can or can’t tolerate. If your current posture is in a position you can't tolerate and is potentially causing you problems, then work on strengthening it or find a more efficient one you can strengthen.

Bottom line is, you gotta be strong!

So be strong and live long.
